4x4 & Land Rover
Dealer-trained on Land Rover. Independent on price.
Two of the four mechanics here came from main-dealer Land Rover backgrounds before joining the workshop. That is why a lot of the estate's Defenders, Discoverys, Freelanders and Range Rovers end up on our ramps rather than making the trip to a franchised dealer.
Why it matters
Knowing the platform saves you the guessing
Any competent garage can change the oil on a Discovery. The difference dealer experience makes shows up on the awkward jobs — the intermittent fault, the suspension that drops overnight, the warning message that appears once a fortnight and clears itself. Someone who has seen the same fault fifty times in a franchised workshop finds it far faster than someone reading a forum.
That is all we are claiming here: two of our technicians spent their main-dealer years on these vehicles and brought that with them. Everything else about the visit is the same as any other job at First 4 Carz — a quote before the work, a phone call if anything changes, and the car back when we said.
And to be clear, we are not a Land Rover-only garage. We service and repair every other make and model too — this is simply a strength worth knowing about if you happen to run a 4x4.

On the ramps
The 4x4 work we take on
Servicing to the manufacturer schedule
Oil, filters and the full inspection list done to the schedule for your model and engine, with the history recorded so the car keeps a proper service record.
Diagnostics on the electronics
Modern Land Rovers throw a lot of modules and a lot of codes. The point of dealer experience is knowing which of them actually matters and which is a symptom of something else entirely.
Air suspension and springs
Compressors, valve blocks and air springs are the classic bill on an air-sprung Discovery or Range Rover. We check the system properly before recommending a part.
Brakes, bushes and running gear
Big, heavy vehicles eat bushes, drop links and discs, especially on lanes and unmade tracks. Ordinary work, done properly, on the ramps here.
Cooling and oil leaks
The familiar weeps and seeps — rocker covers, sumps, coolant housings — found and fixed before they become the reason the temperature gauge climbs on the A3.
MOT preparation for 4x4s
A 4x4 fails on different things to a hatchback. We can look it over before it goes into the test bay so nothing obvious catches you out.
Still under warranty?
Servicing it here will not void a manufacturer warranty
As long as the work follows the manufacturer's schedule and uses parts of matching quality, an independent garage can service a car under warranty without affecting it. We record the history properly so the car's book stays intact. More on service intervals.
